The Salt Pans Cuisine
This year, the European Cultural Heritage Days are dedicated to sustainability with the title "Sustainable Heritage". The Maritime Museum “Sergej Mašera” Piran, the Self-governing Community of Italian Nationals Piran, the Community of Italians »Giuseppe Tartini” Piran, the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia, the Sečovlje Parish and the Sečovlje Salina Nature Park Management, will carry out the third edition of the project "The Salt Pans Cuisine". The study and presentation, also includes the preparation of traditional dishes.
May 18th at 4.00 pm: Museum of Salt-making, Fontanigge - Sečovlje Salt Pans Natural Park
This year we will start the events in a different way. From the entrance in Fontanigge we will walk towards the Museum of Salt-making, where we will have a guided tour. Along the way we will get to know and observe the edible plants that were used by salt workers in their daily couisine.
June 15th at 6.00 pm: Museum of Salt-making, Fontanigge - Sečovlje Salt Pans Natural Park
The second meeting will be dedicated to the baking of bread. We will prepare the dough for the bread and bake it in the wood-burning oven of the nearby salt workers' house.
July 20th at 6.00 pm: Museum of salt-making, Fontanigge - Sečovlje Salt Pans Natural Park
At the third meeting we will prepare polenta with fish, a meal that was often made by salt workers.
August 28th at 10.00 am: Seča, the church of Sv. Jernej (Saint Bartholomew)
Presentation of typical desserts that were traditionally prepared for the feast of Sv. Jernej.
October 5th at 18.00 pm: Monfort, former Salt Warehouse in Portorož
The final event will be organized as part of the European Cultural Heritage Days. We will present the project "The Salt Pans Cuisine " and the recipes, which are linked to work and life in the Salt pans.
On each event we will organize workshops and interesting presentations.
