The Opening of the Exhibition Fragments of the Far East

On the occasion of the Summer Museum Night, you are kindly invited, on Saturday, 17 June at 20:00, to the Maritime Museum "Sergej Mašera" Piran to attend the periodical exhibition Fragments of the Far East / East Asian objects in the Mariners' Collections.

 

The exhibition will present the multi-layered narratives of objects from East Asia. On one hand, visitors will learn about their origins, significance, and modes of use in their original contexts. On the other hand, they will explore their connections with seafarers and subsequent owners, as well as their significance and role in new environments. The exhibition will showcase the life stories of these objects and the importance they hold in spreading knowledge about foreign cultures and fostering understanding of diversity.

 

The exhibition has been organized by the Maritime Museum Piran in cooperation with the Department of Asian Studies of the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, and the Koper Scientific Research Centre within the framework of the project Orphaned Objects: Examining East Asian Objects outside Organised Collecting Practices in Slovenia.
