Interreg Italy–Slovenia Programme Representatives Join Young Students on a Visit to Piran

On the first day of autumn, the Maritime Museum welcomed representatives and staff members of the Managing Authority of the Interreg Italy–Slovenia Programme, accompanied by upper secondary school students from the Programme area.

The museum visit and a guided walk through Piran with the museum's experienced historian, Dr Flavio Bonin, were part of the prize awarded to the young visitors for achieving second and third place in the second edition of the Students4Cooperation competition.
The competition, organised by the Interreg Italy–Slovenia Programme, is intended for upper secondary school students from the Programme area. Working in groups, students develop their own ideas for cross-border cooperation projects, while the Programme also organises study visits for the highest-ranking teams.

The visitors were initially welcomed by Uroš Hribar, Acting Director of the Maritime Museum Piran. Students from Trieste and Gorizia then had the opportunity to discover the rich maritime cultural heritage of Piran and the wider Northern Adriatic region.
A special part of the visit was dedicated to the MARE SUPERUM project, which provided a concrete example of how cross-border cooperation between Slovenia and Italy works in practice. The presentation highlighted the role of the Maritime Museum Piran in the project and its activities related to the preservation and presentation of traditional vessels, their restoration, 3D modelling, and contemporary interpretation of maritime heritage. These activities were presented by Mojca Premrl, Head of the European Projects Department.

The study visit thus provided a valuable opportunity for the young participants to connect their own project ideas with a concrete example of European cross-border cooperation and to discover how a project can bring together cultural heritage, local communities, professional expertise, and partners from both sides of the border.
