Presentation of the project "Utilization of ship technology for sustainable supply of saltpans"

On Wednesday, 13 December 2023, a press conference was held at the Monfort Infocenter during the presentation of the project "Utilization of ship technology for sustainable supply of saltpans" led by the Faculty of Maritime Studies and Transport (UL FPP).

The main objective of the project was to investigate the possibility of renovating and revitalizing saltpan houses with modern sustainable technologies, together with preserving and reviving the saltpans’ natural and cultural heritage.

As non-resident partners, students from various faculties of the University of Ljubljana, including the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Maritime and Transport, and Social Sciences, as well as mentors from the Institute for Cultural Heritage of Slovenia OE Piran took part in the project.

The students came up with proposals for the construction of a house adapted to the specific ground conditions, researched the possibility of utilizing the power of the wind and the sun for the production and storage of electricity, and for the production of heat and, indirectly, fresh water. These proposals were presented by the project manager, Valter Suban, MSc, from the Faculty of Maritime Studies and Transport.

A constructive conversation unfolded between the representatives of the Faculty of Maritime Studies and Transport, the Maritime Museum Piran and the Institute for the Protection of the Cultural Heritage of Slovenia OE Piran on the current situation, perceptions and cooperation in the future.
