The Museum summer night 2018
This year's the Museum's summer night was special for the Maritime Museum "Sergej Mašera" Piran, as for this occasion the inclusive occasional exhibition "Stone on stone ... Roman architecture of northwestern Istria", prepared by Snježana Karinja, was opened. Also permanent museum collections have been upgraded and adapted to make them more accessbile to people with different kinds of disabilities. All this has been made possible by the European Come-In project! (Interreg Central Europe).
The initiative "Museum summer night", when museums and galleries throughout Slovenia keep their doors opened until late in the evening was even more special and important for the Maritime Museum "Sergej Mašera" Piran as the accessible occasional exhibition entitled "Stone on the Stone ... Roman architecture of the Northwestern Istria" was opened along with upgraded permanent collections, which were adapted to people with disabilities. The investment was made within the frame of the European Come-In! (Interreg Central Europe), which allows medium-sized and smaller museums to guarantee accessibility standards of larger, national museums.
The temporary archaeological exhibition was prepared by archaeologist Snježana Karinja in cooperation with the Umag Town Museum, the Archaeological Museum of Istria, the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia, the Regional museum of Koper and the Center for Communication, Hearing and Speech Portorož. The designers Milena Oblak Erznožnik and Galja Erznožnik contributed to the overall image of the adaptation works. The Blind and Visually Impaired Slovene Association and the Slovenian association of deaf and hearing participated in the translation into the Braille and sign language. In the park next to the museum, the following associations presented their activities: Sonček, Sklad Silva, Sožitje and Center for communication, hearing and speech Portorož. The present audience was greeted by: the Deputy Mayor of Piran Bruno Fonda, the general directress of the Directorate of the cultural heritage at the Ministry of culture Ksenija Kovačec, the representative of the project's lead partner CEI (Central European Initiative Trieste), Anna Marconato, the author of the exhibition Snježana Karinja and the director of the Maritime Museum, Franco Juri. The Roman costumes were lent by the Umag town museum.
