Bragozzo is a vessel of Venetian origin. It was in wide use among the fishermen of the North Adriatic, particularly those from Chioggia. The bragozzo is a wooden cargo or fishing boat with a twin mast, commonly seen along the Istrian coastline. The bragozzo’s bottom was flat, its deck was completely covered and protected with a low fence. Its plating was robust and thus fit for fishing in the open sea as well as for transportation of goods. Its flat bottom allowed landing on a sandy or clay beach. The boat could have a single or twin mast with a lateen rigged bowsprit (vela al terzo). A particular feature of this boat is its colourful sails. A bragozzo was usually 8 to 13 metres long, 3.2 metres wide and measured 1 metre in height. The crew numbered two to four members.
