Ancient lead-wood anchors consisted of a lead stock, metal connectors, and a wooden shaft, usually made of oak, with the tips often metal-plated. The lead stocks came in various sizes and formed the main weight of the anchor. A sample of wood taken from the opening in the stock was dated, using the radiocarbon technique, to the period between 380 and 180 BC with a probability of 95,4% accuracy.
