European Heritage Days and Cultural Heritage Week 2026 in the Maritime museum Piran

The “Sergej Mašera” Maritime Museum of Piran is once again participating in the programme of the European Heritage Days (DEKD) and Heritage Week (TKD), taking place from 26 September to 10 October 2026. The central theme of this year’s programme is “Heritage in the Vortex of Change – Opportunities and Challenges.”

As part of the DEKD and TKD programme, two events will take place at the Monfort Exhibition Space – a unit of the Maritime Museum of Piran:

Wednesday, 7 October 2026 at 5 pm: Closing meeting of the Salt-making Encounters project

Through meetings and personal accounts, the project has created a space for exploring and preserving heritage related to salt-making and life by the sea. The closing meeting will feature a discussion on research into salt-making from the perspectives of heritage management and heritage-making. Experts who have researched salt-making within the project “Grain of Salt, Crystallising Cohabitation: Salt-Making as Experiential Environmental Wisdom” will participate in the discussion and present some of their research findings.

The fundamental research project “Grain of Salt, Crystallising Cohabitation: Salt-Making as Experiential Environmental Wisdom” (ARIS J6-50196) is financed by the Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency (ARIS) and is carried out by the Science and Research Centre Koper (ZRS Koper) in cooperation with the Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (ZRC SAZU).

 

Friday, 9 October 2026 at 5 pm: Opening of the inter-museum exhibition Games of My Childhood

As part of Children’s Week, the exhibition Games of My Childhood invites us to reflect on children’s play as an important part of growing up and of our cultural heritage. Games, toys, ways of spending free time and the memories associated with them change from one generation to another, yet they remain an important part of both personal and collective memory.

The opening of the exhibition will be enriched by a performance by the Youth Choir of Cirillo Kosmač Primary School in Piran, conducted by choir director Smiljana Steinbacher.
