First celebration of the Underwater Cultural Heritage Day at the Maritime Museum Piran "In the spotlight of underwater finds"

The event, which will be held in Piran at the Maritime Museum at Cankarjev nabrežje 3, is committed to underwater archaeology and the history of sunken vessels. The topic is closely associated with the Piran Maritime Museum’s activities, which was the first in Slovenia after World War II to embark on systematic dealing with underwater and maritime cultural heritage.

On this occasion, the expanded permanent exhibition of maritime archaeology Between Sea and Land will  be on display. Exceptional archaeological finds made of wood, metal and other materials from the Slovenian sea will be presented. Visitors will have the chance to listen to interesting lectures on underwater archaeology, conservation and restoration of wet wood, new findings about the Roman settlement and port at Fizine, the development of galleys and the stories of the vessels sunk in the 20th century.
