Pietro Coppo and the map of Istria 1525–2025
On the 500th anniversary of Pietro Coppo's map of Istria, the oldest known printed representation of the Istrian peninsula, we invite you to events that will take place in Piran and Izola:
On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 6 p.m., the opening of the Histria cartographica exhibition will take place at the Tartini House in Piran. The exhibition, which presents depictions of Istria from the 16th to the 19th century from the collections of the Rovinj Center for Historical Research, will temporarily move to Izola (Manzioli Palace) on Thursday, November 20, and then return to Piran on Monday, where it will be on display until December 14, 2025.
On Friday, November 21, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., an international scientific symposium entitled Pietro Coppo and the Map of Istria 1525–2025 will be held in Izola at the Manzioli Palace. At the symposium, experts from Slovenia, Italy, and Croatia will give lectures on Pietro Coppo, his time, work, research, etc.
At both events, Pietro Coppo's Piran Codex "De summa totius orbis" will be on display for a short time.
