FROM THE GLAMOUR OF THE LAST BUCINTORO TO THE VENETIAN PEARLS OF PIRAN
The Summer Museum Night is approaching and with it this year's main exhibition of the Maritime Museum BUCINTORO and the Pearls of Piran's Venetian Heritage.
You are invited on Saturday, June 21, 2025:
at 6:00 PM to the former salt warehouse Monfort, Obala 8, Portorož, for the exhibition: "HISTORYA VENICE – A Journey into the Art of Restoration and Decoration"
and
at 8:00 PM to the Maritime Museum Pran, Gabrielli Palace, Cankarjevo nabrežje 3, for the exhibition: "BUCINTORO and the Treasures of Piran’s Venetian Heritage"
It will feature a particularly splendid model of the last bucintoro - the doge's galley for public ceremonies, the product of master craftsman Ivan Ceschino and his Historya Venice workshop in Conegliano, dating from 2021.
The loan of this magnificent model has also prompted us to collaborate with Giorgio Suppio, a great expert on Venetian seafaring and a collector from Venice, who has contributed to the exhibition some exceptional original objects dating from 1729, when the last bucintoro was launched.
The exhibition will include some of Piran's hitherto unknown gems of the Venetian period: works of art, cultural and historical exhibits, including precious books from the old Piran City Library (Biblioteca civica di Pirano), which is kept in the Museum.
The opening of the exhibition will be enriched by a musical performance by Ljoba Jenča, singer, storyteller and folk music researcher, accompanied by Domen Marinčič on viola.
The exhibition is curated by Duška Žitko, Graziella Viola and Flavio Bonin, with Ivan Ceschin and Giorgio Suppiej as external collaborators.
At the same time, the guest exhibition HISTORYA VENICE, a journey into the art of restoration and decoration, will be on show at the former salt warehouse - Monfort until 31 August, complementing the first exhibition and showcasing the work of the restorers, decorators and authors of the bucintoro model from Conegliano.
