We help the young in growing fond of history
Two professional employees from the Maritime Museum Piran, Dr Nadja Terčon and Bogdana Marinac, have been active for several years as members of the Commission for the work of history interest groups within the Young Researchers of History Programme of the Association of Friends of Youth of Slovenia (ZPMS).
About twenty members of the Commission, who come from various Slovenian cultural and scientific institutions, including museums, pass their knowledge to mentors of young historians and dedicate, through their engagement, much of their time to working with young people.
They are doing their best to help young people in suitable research, understanding and learning about society and events from the past, in popularizing science and knowledge, as well as in preserving and shaping attitudes towards cultural heritage.
On Wednesday, 28 May 2025, Dr Nadja Terčon and Bogdana Marinac attended the main closing event of the research cycle by young historians. The Association of Friends of Youth of Slovenia organized the 57th meeting of Young Researchers of History at the Biotechnical Faculty in Ljubljana.
At the event, more than 120 young researchers and their mentors took part, who had been researching the topic of Coexistence of Humans and Animals Through Time during the current school year. At the meeting, the participants listened to short presentations of research tasks on the topic of coexistence of humans and animals in the past and attended the award ceremony.
They were welcomed with satisfaction, as they had achieved the set research objective. After the ceremonial part, the participants visited the Ljubljana Zoo in a relaxed atmosphere.
The event was also attended by: Darja Groznik, President of the ZPMS, Breda Krašna, Secretary General of the ZPMS, Rado Kostrevc, Director General of the Directorate for Preschool and Primary Education, Assoc Prof Dr Andrej Ficko, Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana, and Marjetka Balkovec Debevec, MSc, President of the Commission for the Work of History Interest Goups at the ZPMS with members of the Commission. The meeting was enhanced by comedians Žan Papič and Juš Miličinski, who with their improvised performance attracted the attendees to participate, which brought a lot of laughter.
Like numerous times in the past, it was proven once more that the tradition of continuous research work is firmly anchored among young people, mentors, and committee members, and with a winning mentality on top of it all.
