Salt Pans Cuisine 2024 – the saltpans “marenda” of the present-day salt-makers

You are cordially invited to this year's edition of the culinary heritage project “The Salt Pans Cuisine”.

The second event will take place on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at 6 p.m. at the Museum of Salt-making in Fontanigge at the Sečovlje Salina Nature Park.

 

Programme:
♦ 18:00 Meeting at the entrance in Fontanigge at the Sečovlje Saltpans and departure by train to the Museum of Salt-making.
♦ 18:30 Guided tour of the museum’s collection, pedagogical workshops, presentations and playing of traditional games.
♦ 19:00 A talk on modern day salt-making with the saltpan’s workers, moderated by Maja Bjelica, Ph.D. (researcher at the Science and Research Centre Koper and saltpan worker from the Muzofil Association).
♦ 19:45 The saltpans “marenda”: presentation and preparation of the present-day salt-maker’s snacks.
♦ 21:00 Return by train to the entrance in Fontanigge.

 

We invite all visitors to bring their own glasses in order to reduce the use of single-use packaging.

In the year 2024, the European Heritage Days are dedicated to the heritage of cultural routes, networks and connections. The fifth edition of the Salt Pans Cuisine project is focused on the study, presentation and preparation of dishes related to the culture of living and working in the salt pans.

May 29 at 5:00 p.m.: Museum of Salt-making, Fontanigge - Sečovlje Salina Nature Park
June 26 at 6:00 p.m.: Museum of Salt-making, Fontanigge - Sečovlje Salina Nature Park
July 24 at 6:00 p.m.: Museum of Salt-making, Fontanigge - Sečovlje Salina Nature Park
August 25 at 10:00 a.m.: Seča, courtyard by the church of St. Jernej
October 2 at 6:00 p.m.: Monfort, the former salt warehouse, Portorož


In joint organization and cooperation of:
the Maritime Museum "Sergej Mašera" Piran, the Self-Governing Community of Italian Nationality Piran with the Community of Italians "Giuseppe Tartini" Piran, the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia, the manager of the Sečovlje Salina Nature Park - Soline d.o.o., the ethnographic group “La Famea dei salineri”, the Parish of Sečovlje, the Science and Research Centre Koper, the Muzofil Association, the Slovenian Conservation Society and others.
