Virtual exhibition “Coastal Transformations”
The exhibition presents coastal transformation and the impact of change on coastal inhabitants, especially fishers, through a synthesis of perspectives from India and Europe. Displaying examples of coastal transformations from India, Norway, the UK, and Slovenia, exhibition highlights continuity and change through satellite images, statistics, life histories, ethnographic films, and archival and photo materials.
The “Coastal Transformations” virtual exhibition is the result of a three-year international research project funded by the EQUIP programme, a funding platform for Europe-India projects, coordinated in Slovenia by the Republic of Slovenia Ministry of Education, Science and Sport.
The project involves five countries (Norway, England, Slovenia with the two Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Maharastra) and six research institutions, including ZRC SAZU. ZRC SAZU has taken on the roles of national project coordinator, leadership of the work package on heritage and heritage of coastal spaces, as well as the role of exhibition organiser, with two members of the “Heritage on the Margins” programme group, Dr. Nataša Rogelja Caf and Dr. Martina Bofulin, acting as curators of the exhibition.
The exhibition was officially opened on 26 June 2021 in the framework of the»“MARE 2021 Policy Day” event in Amsterdam, which this year was dedicated to the heritage of coastal spaces.
