Iron people on wooden ships

The Maritime Museum hosted the exhibition prepared by the Croatian Maritime Museum and Archaeological Museum Split on the subject of the greatest sea battle in the Adriatic Sea: the Battle of Vis from 1866 between the Italian and Austrian Navies. The Austrian fleet was commanded by Vice Admiral Wilhelm von Tegetthoff from Maribor, while one of the officers was Anton Perko, the official painter of the Navy.

The exhibition that depicts tactical and technological progress at sea in those times carries, at the same time, the message of perniciousness and tragic nature of war. Bogdana Marinac, the curator, supplemented the exhibition with objects and various details and features from the Maritime Museum.
