Presentation of the book "We Anchored Ourselves at Sea" at the International Propeller Club of the Port of Koper

On 3 December 2025, on the national Happy Day of Culture, Dr Nadja Terčon from the Maritime Museum "Sergej Mašera" Piran appeared as a guest at the club evening organised by the International Propeller Club of the Port of Koper.

On invitation by its president Radko Malačič, she presented her book featuring the exciting and perhaps less known history of Slovenian maritime affairs after World War II We Anchored Ourselves at Sea: the Establishment of Slovenian Shipping 1945–1958”.Thea book acquaints us with the story of how this area separated in 1954 from the previous centre in Trieste and laid the foundations for Slovenian maritime affairs and the economy. It contains stories by various individuals who had a major influence on Slovenian maritime affairs, as well as records of the establishment of all significant maritime companies. On this occasion, the author also paid special attention to the time and circumstances that eventually led to the establishment and construction of the large port in Koper.

 

The second guest at the club was Borut Čok, Head of the Sphere of Strategic Development at Luka Koper d.d., who described his vision, challenges, opportunities and plans for the future development of Luka Koper. His main emphasis was on the aspect of the Port's sustainable development.

 

This most interesting evening connected the past and future of the port area of ​​Koper. It was attended by numerous members of the Propeler Club, including Nevenka Kržan, the President of the Board of the Port of Koper, d. d. The club members include, along with others, some retired mariners, long time associates of the Museum. The enjoyable gathering quickly slipped by, with attendees reminiscing about their maritime activities and sharing ideas as well as plans for future museum exhibitions.
