Štolfa Vladimir

Vladimir Štolfa (Divača, 14 December 1904 –Piran,12 December 1956 )

 

Captain, pre-war seafarer on Yugoslav Merchant Navy ships, Director of Val, Port Master, and Maritime High School professor. He attended the Navy School in Kotor, where he obtained knowledge in the nautical section. He graduated in the school year 1928/1929. He sailed on board numerous ships of the Yugoslav Royal Merchant Navy. As Chief Mate he worked on board the ship Carica Milica till December 1939, when the ship struck a mine on the River Thames near London and sunk. After the war, he served for a while as the Port Master in Pula and Piran and as professor at the Maritime High School Piran. He is considered one of the founders of the Slovenian Merchant Navy, since he was the Director of the preceding companies of Splošna plovba Agmarit, Val and Slovenijalinija. He was the first Captain of the ship Gorenjska, one of the first three ships of the Slovenian Merchant Navy.
