Leskovar Oto

Oto Leskovar (Kolačno near Loče, October 21, 1934, residing in Ljubljana)

 


He was born on October 21, 1934, in Kolačno in Styria. After completing his lower gymnasium education in Slovenjske Konjice, during the school year 1949-1950, he enrolled at the Maritime School in Piran. He attended the mechanical engineering department. He completed his studies in June 1954, and soon after, he found employment at the Splošna Plovba Piran (General Shipping Company in Piran), obtaining his professional exam in 1957. Between 1958 and 1960, he worked for the fishing company Riba in Izola, where he was appointed as their delegate to Egypt. The company Riba participated in fishing and fisheries research in the Egyptian part of the Mediterranean and Red Seas based on an international agreement between Yugoslavia and Egypt. After graduating from the Department of Marine Engineering at the University of the Maritime studies in Portorož, he carried out various other tasks as a marine engineer. Among other things, he worked in the shipbuilding department at Intertrade in Ljubljana, where he was responsible for new ship constructions. Later, he was employed at the Ljubljana branch of the Adriatic Maritime Agency in Rijeka, working as an independent foreign trade officer at the company Prehrana in Ljubljana. He briefly sailed on a German ship and then, until his retirement in 1992, served as an assistant director at the International Maritime and Transport Agency Jadroagent in Rijeka - Ljubljana branch.

 

Today, he lives at the Šiška Elderly Home in Ljubljana.

 


In 2023, the Maritime Museum "Sergej Mašera" acquired his naval uniform, school certificates, work documentation, school notebooks, textbooks and books, lecture notes, documentation on shipbuilding/orders for ships, brochures on mechanical parts used in shipbuilding at that time, certificates of work on ships, etc.
