Rear Admiral Metod Koch (Kranj 1874–Trieste 1952)

 

Commander of the Navy of the Kingdom of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs

 

After completing his studies at a secondary modern school in Ljubljana and a technical school in Graz he joined the Navy as an aspirant. He served at various institutions as well as aboard Navy's ships and progressed to the rank of Commander. He sailed not only the Adriatic and Mediterranean Seas, but also the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. Just prior to the collapse of the Monarchy he was elected Head of the Yugoslav Local National Committee in Pula, while on 3 November 1918 the National Council promoted him, in Zagreb, to the rank of Rear Admiral and appointed him Commander of the Navy. Commissioned for the naval issues, he did his best to convince the Allies to return to the state of SHS the Austro-Hungarian ships confiscated by Italy. Later on he worked in the Navy of Kingdom of SHS as Head of the 1st and then 3rd Maritime Coastal Command. He retired in 1929. He passed away in 1952 in Trieste.
