Blažina Marcel

Marcel Blažina ( Sesljan, 4 January 1922  - Izola,10 January 2001)

 

In his early years, he was employed as electrician by the shipyard in Tržič (Monfalcone). On 1 May 1942, he was drafted to the Italian Navy in Pula. When Italy capitulated in September 1943, he served on board of a torpedo boat in La Spezia. In May 1944 he joined NOVJ in Taranto, south Italy. Via Bari and Monopoli he arrived with his fellow-combatants to the island of Vis, then participated in liberation fights for the Adriatic. After the war, he worked in a shipyard in Split. In 1949, he returned to Tržič, and in 1955 moved to Izola, where he was employed by the Delamaris fish processing factory. Until his death he created numerous ship models and developed into a top modeller. He died in Izola on 10 January 2001.
